Salvation Army Helps Rock Cats Count Down
NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain Rock Cats held their annual
Winterfest, on Saturday, December 7, at New Britain Stadium.
This celebration featured arts and crafts for the kids (or kids at heart), face
painting, photos with Santa and Rocky, free food and drinks, inflatables, and
in total... just a lot of fun! Guests were asked to make a donation: new books;
games; and/or gloves, coats, hats, and scarves to The Salvation Army for
distribution to families in need of help for the holidays. Everyone that
donated received a ticket to opening night on April 3, courtesy of the United
Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, and a pass for the University of
Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball game on December 22.
Families started arriving early and never stopped coming! Most brought toys
and games and dropped them into the collection boxes at the front gate or kids
put money into The Salvation Army's Red Kettle. Salvation Army New
Britain Associate Corps Officer, Lieutenant Emmanuel Echavrria, worked the gate
and the crowd kept him busy collecting gifts and passing out "official
Salvation Army thunder sticks." All of the kids and Lt. Echavarria seemed to
enjoy making noise with their new toys. We thank the fans and the Rock Cats for
their wonderful generosity and continued support, and we hope to see everyone
at the opening game on April 3!
