The Salvation Army has had a presence in Haiti since 1950, operating schools, clinics, feeding programs, children's homes, and church-related activities through some 60 Corps community centers across the country. Our personnel were affected by the earthquake—one Salvation Army compound near Port Au Prince experienced severe damage, including collapsed buildings. Fortunately, no one was injured in the collapse. The Salvation Army is now working to assist people in need of food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support. In addition to assessing the immediate need throughout the country, we are making plans for long-term recovery efforts.
