The Adult Rehabilitation Center ministry began in 1881 when William Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, opened shelters for homeless people on the streets of England and this initiative quickly spread to the United States. Persons who have sought our ministry, nurture, and healing have come with issues of substance misuse, legal problems, relational conflicts, homelessness, unemployment, and most importantly, a need for spiritual awakening and restoration.

Purpose of Our Rehabilitation Centers

The primary purpose of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC's) is the spiritual regeneration of men and women who have undergone a process of disaffiliation from those ties that enable individuals to take advantage of opportunities and cope with the tribulations of everyday life. These men and women may be handicapped mentally, morally, physically, and socially. More importantly, they are often handicapped spiritually. The center affords them the opportunity to gain insights into their problems. While acquiring self-respect, and to develop moral and spiritual principles of conduct and habits of industry that will enable them to gain purpose and meaning in their lives. The Adult Rehabilitation Centers programs are based on spiritual rehabilitation, which includes being required to take part in a work therapy components of the program that teaches self-discipline and self respect.

Finally, program participants graduate as whole individuals prepared in body, mind and spirit for active useful roles in society.
