The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center program provides spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men and women who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves.
The Salvation Army operates more than 100 Adult Rehabilitation Centers in the United States, providing in-residence rehabilitation for a host of social problems, including issues with alcohol, drugs and homelessness. The program focuses on basic necessities and each program participant receives a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, spiritual direction and the resources needed to develop life skills and a personal relationship with God and community.
The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Every potential participant undergoes a comprehensive intake interview to ensure the program is the best possible match for them. If the interview process determines it is not, we will make every effort to refer them to a program that will be.
A long-term commitment of at least six months is required so patterns of poor decision-making can be broken and replaced with positive life choices – changes that will help them become productive citizens of their community.
The program is focused on Recycling Goods and Reclaiming Lives. Donors support the program through in-kind donations that are sold in Salvation Army Family Stores. A large percentage of these donations would otherwise likely be sent to local landfills. For example, within The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory, more than 117 million pounds of clothing are recycled each year.
