Salvation Army Re-Opens Store in Corning, NY

(Binghamton, NY, April 30, 2013)—The Salvation Army is set to re-open its store in South Corning, NY on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The new location will have a Family Store design to vastly improve the shopping experience for its customers and 16,000 square feet of shopping space filled with bargain-priced clothing, household items, electronics, books, toys, furniture and collectables.  Budget-conscious shoppers will also appreciate the store’s even deeper “Family Day” discounts on Wednesdays.

Located at the old Jubilee/Foodmart location at the Park Avenue Plaza at 328 Park Avenue, the Family Store will open its doors at 9:00 in the morning, after a one month hiatus at the old location. Opening day shoppers will enjoy special promotions.
The new location will allow The Salvation Army to keep the 11 jobs in the area. It will also make it possible for The Salvation Army to provide better assistance for people in the community who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, homelessness and other life issues since revenues from the Family Store will support the charity’s rehabilitation center. This center will offer services free-of-charge, and sales from the Family Thrift Store will be its sole source of funding. Families in need may also receive vouchers for free furniture or clothing from the store through other Salvation Army programs.

““Our new Family Store location will offer more selection and more bargains that appeal to everyone in order to provide our customers with a better shopping experience and support our social services work,” says Captain Peggy Jennings, who oversees The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center and Family Thrift Store in the Corning area.  “We really enjoy the relationship we have with the community, and are blessed to be able to remain in the area and to contribute to the community on so many levels.  I believe the new location is a gift directly from God.  At present we are using less than half the available space, and I am excited about the prospects moving forward into the future.”

Tax receipts will be provided on-the-spot at the donation door on the right side of the building for donations received during store hours, which are Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
