49th Annual Suffolk County Golf Outing.
The 2011 Suffolk County Golf Outing was held on June 6 at The Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack. This was our 49th Annual Outing and over 100 golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the golf course, starting with registration and breakfast from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the clubhouse. At 10:30 everyone headed out for a shotgun start and their round of golf, including opportunities at 2 hole-in-one prizes, a Hyundai Elantra, courtesy Atlantic Hyundai and a Ford Escape, courtesy of Newins Bay Shore Ford.

The honoree for the day was Wiedersum Associates Architects. They were a wonderful honoree and very supportive of The Salvation Army and our efforts for the day.

During their round the golfers were able to get a delicious BBQ lunch on the course and then after golf they sat down to a tasty buffet dinner. At the dinner the golfers were also able to pick up a picture of their foursome in a presentation wallet (taken earlier in the day) courtesy of Bill Moseley and BBA Photography who donated their services for the day.
It was a terrific day, the funds raised will benefit Salvation Army programs in Suffolk, the tentative date for the 2012 outing is Monday, May 17, so mark your calendar now, it is our 50th Annual Outing and will be one not to be missed!

Suffolk Dessert and Theater Party
On Thursday, July 7, 2011 Suffolk Advisory Board of The Salvation Army sponsored its 16th Annual Dessert and Theater Party. It was held at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport on the South Shore of Suffolk County, Long Island New York. This year we went to see "Legally Blonde, the musical". Show time was 8:00 p.m. The Co-Chairs for the event were Sheila Rettaliata and Teddi Seaman, both members of the Suffolk Advisory Board.

Before the show, starting at 6:30 p.m., we had our dessert party under the tent in front of the Theater. We served hot and cold drinks along with cookies and desserts and everyone in attendance had the opportunity to socialize and catch up with old friends before settling into their seats to enjoy the show. We again welcomed Starbucks in Bayport who provided coffee.

The funds raised at this event support the senior nutrition program which provides food boxes to seniors. We work with several senior nutrition sites and senior housing facilities providing them with food boxes of staples that can be given to seniors if they need them.

Tickets for the evening were $50.00 each, plus there are sponsorship opportunities available. Please call Paul at (631)363-6100 and he will be happy to help you in any way that he can for future events.

Salvation Army Night at the Long Island Ducks
July 29, 2011

On Friday, July 29, Salvation Army Night at the Long Island Ducks was held. It was our 8th Annual evening at the Ducks . The evening began with the throwing out of the ceremonial first pitch by Lieutenant Stephen Mayes from the East Northport Corps. The Color Guard of the Colonel Francis S. Gabreski Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, based in Patchogue presented colors.

The first 1,500 people through the turnstiles received a baseball with the Ducks logo and Salvation Army shield on it, courtesy of The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army was well represented with young people from all the Long Island Corps. In addition, board members and their families and friends were in attendance. There was an information table on the midway (thanks to Toni, Matt and Kevin for volunteering to help staff it) and one of our new Emergency Services Vehicles (ESV) parked on the plaza outside the stadium. In addition, throughout the evening video's were shown on the "Duckvision" in centerfield, highlighting the work that The Salvation Army does.
Each year the evening just seems to get more enjoyable and is very well received by the sell out crowd in attendance. If you would like to join us at this event or you would like to be a sponsor, please call Paul at (631)363-6100.
