Released 18 November 2013

Northhampton, MA (November 16, 2013) -  TrainingEmergency Disaster Services Director, Chris Farrand provided a trainging at College Church on Saturday, November 16 on 'Preparing Your Congregation for Disaster'. This course, from The Salvation Army National Disaster Training Program, provides faith communities with the information and planning to help them care for themselves as a church community, as well as how to respond to needs in their immediate area after a disaster.

This training provides the tools and preparation so that individuals and families can be safer themselves, and it also increase The Salvation Army's capacity to serve with trained volunteers in the event of a larger state disaster. The course was attended by 30 church members who will now begin to work with their local emergency management agency to determine how they can best provide material, emotional, and spiritual care after a disaster.
