Bristol Police, Fire, and Armed Services Hold Food Drive Challenge with ShopRite

BRISTOL - People in need were the real winners in the 1st Annual Food Drive Challenge with the ShopRite of Bristol. Members of the Police, Fire, and the Armed Services gathered for a "food drive challenge" with ShopRite on May 23. Together, the groups collected over 700 lbs. of nonperishable food items for local food pantries. The Firemen from Station 5 collected 360 lbs. of necessary items, the Police Department with Officer Jim Pelletier collected an additional 190 lbs., and the Armed Services group, with the help of the Bristol Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), collected 140 lbs.

Fire Department and Salvation Army Join Forces

MIDDLETOWN - The Middletown Fire Department and The Salvation Army are combining resources to celebrate the opening and dedication of "Captain Joe's Gym" on Thursday May 22nd at 2:00PM. Rebecca Smith and Michael Pavia Honored

STAMFORD - The Salvation Army of Stamford held its Third Annual Recognition Breakfast on May 9 at the Italian Center of Stamford to honor Rebecca Smith with its "Volunteer of the Year Award" and former Mayor Michael Pavia with its "Community Service Award." Advisory Board Member Thomas J. McKiernan served as the Master of Ceremonies and did most of the heavy lifting in preparing and organizing this wonderful breakfast.

Women's Auxiliary Spring Luncheon a Success

HARTFORD - Put another Greater Hartford Women's Auxiliary event in the win column! Their 2014 Spring Luncheon and Auction was held at the Pond House Cafe on May 8 before an enthusiastic group of supporters and friends. This annual event drew a crowd of auxiliary members and guests eager to participate in one of Greater Hartford's best events. The food was wonderful, as always, and the crowd was excited to finish lunch so that they could get right down to the business at hand... bidding on some outstanding items looking for new homes!

Salvation Army Helps Feed the Homeless

TORRINGTON - For the seventh year, The Salvation Army successfully participated in another Annual Project Homeless Connect Day in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut. This event, sponsored by the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Homeless Outreach Team, New Beginnings of Northwest Hills Litchfield County (Continuum of Care), and the City of Torrington, was held on Friday, May 2, at Coe Park and the Torrington Armory. Next door to the Armory, Doyle’s Medical Supply graciously offered up its parking lot again to serve meals that day, in addition to assisting with tables, chairs, trash receptacles, volunteers, and more.
