MIDDLETOWN - Middletown's Salvation Army post at 515 Main Street welcomed new commanders in June.
Lt. Jose Hernandez of Middletown, and his wife, Lt. Raquel Hernandez, accepted their first post at the charitable organization’s Middletown chapter after graduating Salvation Army Officer Training School in Suffern, New York.
After taking over for Shawn and Rene Hovatter, Hernandez, originally from Providence, Rhode Island, said he’s excited about having his own post. Full article on Middletown Press...

New Officers Now Serving!
HARTFORD – Each year, many officers who serve our
locations take on new appointments. These decisions result in officers moving
in and out of our various locations, including several within the Southern New
England Division. As some of our communities are now under new leadership, on
July 16, their new officers came to Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) for a warm
welcome by officers and staff. These officers also learned more about how the
various departments and processes in the division function and had any and all

12,000 Coats Warm Connecticut This Winter
CONNECTICUT - The fifth annual Coats For Connecticut campaign proved to be an avalanche of generosity and community with over 12,000 gently-used coats being collected, cleaned and delivered to those in need when needed most. From Nov. 8 through Jan. 4, the general public was asked to drop off gently-used winter coats for all ages at any of Best's 11 locations for free cleaning and weekly delivery to Salvation Army centers and shelters in the greater Hartford, Middletown, Meriden, Bristol and New Britain areas. MIDDLETOWN – Consulting Engineering Services (CES) recently won the annual Salvation Army Architects and Engineers Can Challenge and keeps their title as “King of the Cans” with a donation of over 12,000 food items.
CES is able to keep their title for the largest monetary and food donation of the industry mainly due to the internal competition held each year. CROMWELL- State Representative Christie Carpino (R-32) raised $379.48 for the Salvation Army’s “Red Kettle Campaign” on December 5th outside of Wal-Mart in Cromwell.
Wal-Mart promised a dollar-for-dollar matching contribution bringing the total to $758.96 raised for the Salvation Army by Rep. Carpino’s volunteer efforts that hour.
