About the Program
The Ark of Learning Tutoring Program is a free service offered to all students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in all subjects. We are currently tutoring on Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm - 8:00pm. Each session is a one on one session with an Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) student and lasts for 1 hour. We try to match up IUP students with majors in the subject area that the student needs tutoring in, affording them the best chance of succeeding in that subject.
Math's A Blast & Read To Succeed
Over the course of our programs existence, we have noticed that most students do not meet the state of Pennsylvania's educational requirements for reading or math. We felt that this issue needed to be addressed in our program, and therefore, we made practice problems that are set at the grade level that the student is suppose to be at instead of where they actually are. Each week the students do extra problems and read in order to obtain points. The students can then trade their points in for prizes that range from hacky sacks to digital cameras. We have found that this benefits the students in not only a fun way, but also productively.
SAT Workshops
In order for a high school student to get into a 4 year university it is mandatory that they take the SAT. Due to an increasing demand from the public to help with this issue we developed the SAT program which is free to high school students and is offered in a 4 part series. One session is taught a week on Tuesdays from 5-7pm for a month. All subjects are covered on the SAT and general test taking strategies are taught to the students.
