Youth Services within The Salvation Army Community Center hosts the After-School Youth Academy and Summer Day Camp.
Advantage After School Program
Hours of Operation: 2pm-6pm, Monday-Friday, throughout the school year
Our program is a recipient of the New York State Advantage After School grant, which has allowed us to further expand enrichment opportunities for children. Currently, 88 children attend our Advantage After School Program which is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. In addition, our staff is culturally sensitive, being composed of inner-city youth which further strengthens our children's experiences by providing mentors.
Within this program, youth are involved in a selection of activities including Hasek's Heroes Hockey, Sumokids, art instruction, music awareness, Young Audiences, Prevention Focus, Project BEAM, tutoring and homework assistance, computer classes and Cornell Cooperative Extension for healthy eating habits.
Summer Day Camp Program
Hours of Operation: 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday, during the summer months
The Salvation Army provides many inner-city youth with a summertime opportunity to attend our Summer Day Camp. This program, licensed by the Erie County Department of Health, integrates educational enrichment, computer usage, arts and crafts, recreation and field trips to enhance and motivate children's imaginations. The children are also given the opportunity to enjoy a week at Long Point Camp on Seneca Lake through the generosity of community and individual donations.
The Salvation Army's 2008 Summer Day Camp was a huge success! Approximately 120 children joined us this year for a fun-filled summer that was jam-packed with tons of activities and entertainment.
This summer, 65 children also enjoyed the opportunity to attend a week long camping adventure at Long Point Camp, located on beautiful Lake Seneca. Our children got a taste of various camp activities while rotating between arts & crafts, pioneering, athletics, music, boating, and swimming programs throughout the week.
