Since 1884, The Salvation Army in Buffalo has provided a variety of programs and services that annually benefit over 30,000 economically disadvantaged people. With the help of an active volunteer Advisory Board, The Salvation Army has become an integral part of the local human service network, providing housing, clothing, nutritional, social and spiritual assistance through a wide range of separate but interrelated programs and services.
While the general public may recognize The Salvation Army more for short-term emergency assistance it provides to victims of disaster, job loss, domestic violence or other events, the organization is equally committed to linking individuals with the long-term educational and social services they need in order to avoid future crises and become positioned for permanent economic self-sufficiency. Without regard to age, race, religion, ethnicity or educational level, our mission is to help others through a network of more than a dozen programs including: The Emergency Family Shelter, Emergency Family Assistance, Family Education, Supervised Visitation, Employment Services, Spouse Abuse Education, Emergency Disaster/Canteen Services, Buffalo Citadel Corps, Buffalo Temple Corps, Kensington Corps, The Golden Age (Senior) Center and Youth Services (after school program and summer day camp).
