The Salvation Army Reports Its "Christmas in July" Campaign is More than $50,000 Short of Goal
Cincinnati, OH (July 26, 2012) - The Salvation Army today is making a plea for donations to its iconic red kettles. The "Christmas in July" Campaign, which concludes this weekend, is a supplemental fundraising effort to support The Salvation Army's diverse and extensive social services and emergency assistance programs. The campaign is currently more than $50,000 short of its goal.
"The work of The Salvation Army doesn't slow down in the summer months," explained Major Hugh Steele, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army. "Requests for assistance continue throughout the year, and the particularly hot weather has put an additional strain on families," continued Major Steele. "We've been assisting people in our local community every day with their most basic needs, and anticipate this level of needed support will continue in the months ahead."
"Having raised more than $53,000 from the "Christmas in July" campaign in 2011, we had high hopes for this year's campaign," stated Matt Pearce, Development Director at The Salvation Army. "Seeing the need, we set an aggressive goal of $75,000 this year for the campaign, but are currently far short of our target. We appreciate all those who have donated, and ask others to step forward at this time to show their support."
The Salvation Army asks that those in the community who are able to help to please come forward in these final days of the "Christmas in July" campaign. The kettles are located at approximately 40 convenient Kroger locations throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. In addition to the familiar kettles, contributions can be made by sending a check to 114 E. Central Parkway, Cincinnati, OH, 45202, by visiting www.salvationarmycincinnati.org, or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
