The Salvation Army Receives $10,000 from the Charles H. Dater Foundation

Funds will Continue Support for The Salvation Army Learning Center

Cincinnati, OH (February 11, 2014) - The Salvation Army today announced that it received $10,000 from the Charles H. Dater Foundation. The funds provide support for The Salvation Army's Learning Center. The Salvation Army operates this program at the West Side Corps, serving Price Hill and adjacent areas.  Since 1987, the second year the foundation was in existence, the Dater Foundation has provided 24 grants totaling $239,000 to The Salvation Army.

"We're very grateful for the Dater Foundation's continued support for The Salvation Army's work with children and youth," stated Major Larry Ashcraft, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army.  "Our organization has a long heritage of service to children and youth, and supporters like this make it possible.  We have the opportunity to positively impact children's lives every day - we can't do it without our donors."

The Salvation Army Learning Center is comprehensive, providing out-of-school-time programming for infants starting at age 6 months up to school-age children.  During the school year, the program provides tutoring and homework assistance, and a Summer Enrichment program provides all-day informal educational programming including 50% outdoor activities. Additional aspects of the programming include club activities for boys and girls, music lessons, movie night, sports, abstinence education, conflict resolution training and meals.

"The Charles H. Dater Foundation is committed to the children of the Greater Cincinnati area," stated Bruce A. Krone, Director of the foundation.  "We focus on providing financial support to programs that serve to improve the lives of children through diversified experiences and activities.  This is in keeping with the philanthropic vision and goals of the late Charles H. Dater, when he established the foundation."
