The Salvation Army Camp Auxiliary Plans Fundraiser to Support Area Children
"HOPE for Camp SWONEKY" Fundraiser to Benefit Local Children's Camp
Cincinnati, OH (February 26, 2014) - The Salvation Army Camp SWONEKY Auxiliary today announced the launch of a new fundraising initiative to benefit area children who attend The Salvation Army's residential summer camp. The "HOPE for Camp SWONEKY" event will be held the evening of Friday, May 16th, 2014, starting at 6:30 pm, at a beautiful, historic site in Clifton. The event will feature dinner and both silent and live auctions. Auctioneer will be Steve Early Jr., of the Early Auction Company in Milford, OH. Cost is only $65 per ticket.
"We're excited to offer a new format and venue for our annual fundraiser," stated Jill Smith, president of the Camp Auxiliary and long-serving Advisory Board member of The Salvation Army in Cincinnati. "As we move forward, we're focused on the kids who benefit from our efforts. As well, we recognize the need to transition our fundraising efforts to both honor the past and embrace the future."
Auxiliary co-chairs for the "HOPE for Camp SWONEKY" event are Janet Sarran and Joddy Perry, both members of the Camp Auxiliary. "I'm delighted to have this opportunity to support The Salvation Army's camp program," stated Janet Sarran. "The Salvation Army does great work with the kids, and I'm happy that we're able to embrace this exciting fundraising event in our effort to support them." In addition to securing tickets sales for the event, co-chairs Sarran and Perry seek donations of items to be offered in the auctions at the event.
Camp SWONEKY, located about 30 miles north of Cincinnati in Oregonia, OH, hosts more than 1,000 children each summer through a series of camp experiences. Opened in the 1950s, Camp SWONEKY has served tens of thousands of area children, providing a camp experience that seeks to enrich the lives of children. The Salvation Army Camp Auxiliary has been active since 1956, and has had an immeasurable impact on the camp facilities and the many thousands of children who have benefitted from the camp experience. Over the years, the Camp Auxiliary has provided t-shirts and personal hygiene items for the children who attend camp, and have also contributed to substantially enhance the camp facilities, with various donations to add new features and improve the camp's offerings.
"We are so very grateful for the work of our Camp Auxiliary members," stated Major Janet Ashcraft, Divisional Director of Women's Ministries at The Salvation Army. "They have been a consistent, loyal and compassionate group whose contributions of time, talent and treasure have helped us better serve the children and families at camp."
