ELMIRA -- The Salvation Army in four Southern Tier cities will kick off Red Kettle Campaigns on Nov. 20 in a joyful, united celebration at the Arnot Mall.
"We are ONE Salvation Army working in cities and small communities around the state," noted Maj. Chris Stephens of the Elmira Salvation Army, who helped coordinate the event. "This kickoff emphasizes that we are all here to serve people, no matter where they live." In addition to Elmira, Salvation Army operations in Corning, Ithaca and Sayre, PA will participate.
The joint kickoff gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, in Arnot Mall's Center Court, and will feature a rousing brass band from Ithaca and the joyful music of singers from Elmira, he said. Salvation Army Advisory Board members and dignitaries from the participating communities also will join in the festivities.
The Red Kettle Campaign will continue through the holiday season right up to Christmas Eve.
"You'll be hearing the bells making joyful noise all through the season, reminding people to give as generously as possible to help their neighbors who are facing difficult times," Major Stephens said.
He added that there are plenty of bellringing slots available throughout the four cities and surrounding areas. To volunteer in any area, call the Red Kettle Center toll free at 1-877-764-7259 or go online to RedKettles.org.
