| Elmira Salvation Army won a $500 Quaker Oats Go Grant for a unique project it proposed -- to provide milk and oatmeal to children whose families are experiencing financial difficulties.
In cooperation with Bleecher Elementary School, "we gave out 100 gallons of milk and 100 boxes of oatmeal" after school was dismissed on Sept. 24, noted Caseworker Caroline Tolbert.
"We utilized the services of our local Wegmans grocer, who was gracious in the pricing of both items. The community was grateful for the free gifts. We saw many smiling faces as the younger children proudly tried to balance a box of cereal and gallon of milk in their arms."'
Tolbert wrote to Quaker Oats, saying it was an "amazing grant" and that "it was a wonderful experience to share with the children of the community."
