| | Training for Community Disasters The Empire State Division's Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Department, along with other Divisions, is now offering disaster training for volunteers. Interested in being prepared to help your local community? Or at disasters elsewhere? Check out upcoming training sessions: Training Schedule. Some 31 people completed basic EDS training at recent sessions held in Binghamton and Canandaigua. Read story. What is Empire State Division?The Empire State Division oversees services in 48 Upstate New York counties. Its Area Services cover metropolitian areas (Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo) while 47 corps centers serve smaller cities and 170 volunteer service units operate in towns and villages. Services range from disaster and emergency assistance, shelters, soup kitchens, food pantries, and youth and senior citizen programs in cities to assistance with meals, clothes, school supplies, utility bills and prescription costs in small communities.
