People throughout upstate New York can help their less fortunate neighbors by participating in the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign -- which gets under way in most communities by mid-November.

There is a tremendous need for volunteer bellringers across the state, and even kettle coordinators in many areas.

By volunteering to stand at a kettle and ring the bell, by coordinating groups and individuals to take turns at a kettle, or by dropping coins and bills into a Red Kettle, you will make it possible for The Salvation Army to meet the increased need. We are seeing more families and individuals suffering job loss, financial woes, hunger, homelessness, or some other crisis.

If you wish to ring the bells or coordinate a kettle in your community, you are invited to sign up online at RedKettles.org, or to call The Red Kettle Center toll free at 1-877-764-7259. Or you may call your local Salvation Army (click here to search for the center nearest you).

We need groups -- families, schools, businesses, organizations and clubs -- that will adopt a kettle for a day, and take responsibility for scheduling their friends and members. Of course, individuals are also invited. We need everyone to help. It would make a big difference in building the local fund that could make a major impact in the services that we provide. Money raised in each community is used for local needs.
