2013 BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM
Kids Bags 1

Our Back to School program started over 18 years ago and continues to be a success each and every year.

The goal is to identify school aged children in need and provide them with a new backpack, supplies and a gift card to use for a new outfit.  Parents have the opportunity to share the school shopping experience with their children without the financial worries. The gift cards are tracked to confirm that the purchases are  back to school items.  Many of the children that benefit from this program are surrounded by hardships and each day is full of unexpected challenges.  A new backpack and a new outfit go a long way in boosting a child's spirit and building confidence.

We have many generous sponsors, both individuals and businesses from the community that reach out and contribute to the program.  In an average year, we provide assistance to over 200 children.     Kids Bags
In addition to helping many Salvation Army families, we share this opportunity with the following organizations:  Neighborworks, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Moore Center, Families in Transition and homeless children identified by the City of Manchester's Homeless Liaison.  Although we would like to open this program to the public, there are not enough backpacks to go around so instead, the Caseworkers choose the children in the most need which brings peace of mind to all involved.

We would love to see this program grow so more children could benefit.  If you would like to be a sponsor, please contact Lt. Miriam for more information.
