"THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY" is how the thank you note ends, but it is only the beginning of the great work done by The Salvation Army of Springfield. Here is the entire note:
Dear Majors Linda and Thomas Perks, I would like to take this time to thank the Salvation Army for their continued Mission within the community. My boys, Aaron and Alexander have attended the Summer Reading Camp for the past three summers, and look forward to it each coming summer. I wish every child could have the opportunity to be in an environment where they learn about God, great values, and morals. Every Mission requires great leaders, dedicated staff, and willing hearts to make sure it is carried through. I could sincerely say, this is what I see every time I bring my children to the Springfield Salvation Army. Thank you for your generosity. God Bless! Vivian and Rudy

IT IS OUT OF AFRICA AND INTO WONDERLAND for Captain Armida LaMarr, Massachusetts' new Divisional Youth and Candidate Secretary. With respect to Lewis Carroll's character Alice, the trip Captain Armida has taken on her way to Camp Wonderland is an adventure that she, and those whose lives she touched will never forget.
This daughter of Salvation Army officers has worked around the world helping people in need. But no matter how far she travels or how much adversity she faces her mind always returns to something she learned as a child: "You can't trust God and worry at the same time."
MEDIA COVERAGE DOWN, NEED STILL UP five months after the devastating Haiti earthquake. Despite this dip in media attention The Salvation Army and volunteers continue to dedicate countless hours to helping survivors and the recovery efforts.
We are proud to say that the Director of the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) from The Salvation Army of Massachusetts went to Haiti and helped out for three weeks. Chris Farrand called it a life-changing experience and upon his return he shared his thoughts and more than 1,000 pictures of with us.
As you can imagine, we cannot share all of the pictures. We have chosen a handful that convey not only the destruction suffered by Haitians but also the hard work by everyone involved to ensure a nation to return stronger than ever. Here is Chris' story about a trip that tested his faith every day.
FEDEX MAKES A SPECIAL DELIVERY TO THE SALVATION ARMY at Boston's City Hall Plaza on Thursday, June 24th. The company that has long partnered with The Salvation Army on a national level donated a state-of-the-art Disaster Response Unit (DRU) to The Salvation Army of Massachusetts.
The dedication ceremony included Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota on NASCAR's Sprint Cup circuit Denny Hamlin (pictured left).
The DRU is valued at $100,000 and is one of more than a dozen vehicles donated by FedEx to Salvation Army divisions across the country over the past three years. To find out more about their generosity and how The Salvation Army of Massachusetts plans to use their new DRU please click here.
