Program Services
Overview of Shelter & Services for the Homeless:
We offer a Continuum of Care for the Homeless through various levels of service. Bringing a man from homelessness to home ownership is a huge undertaking. That is, however, exactly what The Salvation Army attempts to accomplish. During the last fifteen years, The Salvation Army has developed a Continuum of Care designed to break the cycle of homelessness.
The Continuum of Care has five component programs offered at our Cambridge facility:
1. Drop-In Day Shelter
2. Emergency Overnight Shelter
3. A 90-Day Therapeutic Counseling Program with Housing
4. Single-Room Occupancy Housing Program at our Wellington House property in Arlington
5. Transitional & Independent Housing
Medical and mental health care are accessible through our collaboration with Health Care for the Homeless and Tri-City Mental Health Services.
To find out more please call us at (617) 547-3400.
Wood Etc. - Work Therapy Program
Wood, Etc. is a work therapy program designed to assist our shelter guests as they develop positive work habits and new job skills. Homeless guests are taught to design, produce, market, and distribute woodcraft items.
Funds from the sale of these items are used to purchase additional tools, materials, and other items. The men also receive a stipend when the items are sold. All funds raised benefit the men involved.
Emergency Assistance
A wide variety of assistance is offered to individuals and families in need and is available on an as-needed basis.
Each person is given individual attention during the process of intake, evaluation, and case management. After an assessment of need, family qualifications and program requirements, assistance may be given in areas such as:
- utility assistance through the Good Neighbor Energy Fund
- clothing assistance
- food/grocery store vouchers
- rental/mortgage assistance
- counseling
- referrals and case management
When appropriate, referrals are given to other agencies that may better serve the client's needs (such as food stamps, employment resources, and housing services).
Please call to schedule an appointment.
Holiday Assistance - Seasonal
Special efforts are made to assist individuals and families during the Holiday season with food baskets, toys, and winter clothing.
