GARDEN NEIGHBORHOOD CHARITIES AND BOSTON BRUINS DROP $30,000 IN RED KETTLE thanks to a $15,000 donation and a $15,000 challenge grant that was announced Thursday. Full story.
The generosity is in response to the Army's announcement that red kettle donations are down 22% across Massachusetts. “It was important for us to step up, work closely with the Boston Bruins Foundation to maximize the donation, and help to generate an even greater public response to the current needs of the Salvation Army,” said John Wentzell, TD Garden President.

NO CHANGE? NO PROBLEM! THANKS TO QR CODES on the new Salvation Army Red Kettle signage.
“The code is a great alternative for those who pass by our kettles, but don’t have any change in their pockets to give,” Major Ivan Rock, general secretary of the Massachusetts Salvation Army, told the Boston Herald. “At a time when we’re seeing a dramatic increase in the need for food, shelter, warm clothing and heat, we’re looking for ways to dramatically increase the donations we receive through our kettles.”
In the picture of Major Christine Rock, courtesy of Ted Fitzgerald of the Boston Herald, you will notice the QR Code in the upper right corner of the sign. To read the full Boston Herald article click here.

MAJOR KELLY SURVIVES LOREN and WALLY!!! Massachusetts Commander David E. Kelly made his WROR debut this week and he surprised Loren and Wally with his honest assessment of the season.
"Fundraising across the country is a little bit tighter than normal this year," Kelly told WROR listeners. "We pretty much finish around the same spot every year, but this year but we are down 30 percent."
Major Kelly mentioned in Boston alone, 42,000 toys will be distributed next week and 2200 Thanksgiving baskets were delivered last week. He also reminded listeners that Kettle donations go to help those in need year-round whether it is emergency shelter, day care or food pantry.
Many thanks to Loren and Wally for welcoming Major Kelly and for posting the Red Kettle QR Code on their Facebook page. To listen to the entire interview click here.
