NEWS AND HAPPENINGS

CELEBRATING THE 15th YEAR OF VETS CAMP   Each summer, the New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army holds a special 5-day respite session at Camp Tecumseh for veterans and their families.  "The Salvation Army and the VA NJ Health Care System has collaborated for the last 15 years to provide a unique opportunity for veterans receiving outpatient treatment from the East Orange and Lyons Veterans facilities," said Brenda A. Beavers, Human Services Director for the NJ Division.  "Veterans and their family members look forward to spending quality time at our beautiful Pittstown, NJ residential camp.  We are truly grateful for the opportunity to provide service and recognition to many of New Jersey's forgotten heroes."

Beavers continued, "and we hope a number of kind-hearted people will come forward to sponsor a veteran.  What a wonderful way to memorialize a family member or friend who has served our Country and defended our Nation."

The theme for this year's Vets Camp, which will be held in August at Camp Tecumseh, is Retreat to the '60's.  Tecumseh, set on 400 rolling acres in scenic Hunterdon County, is the perfect venue for Vets Camp.  Recreational amenities include an Olympic-size pool, large lake for fishing and boating, basketball and tennis courts, athletic fields, miniature golf range and hiking trails.

To sponsor a Veteran, please click here.  For more information on this special camp session, please contact Brenda A. Beavers at 908-851-8211.

THE SALVATION ARMY'S CAMP SEASON is in full swing. Click here to visit the Camp Tecumseh website.  Each year, the New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army sends more than 1200 children to Camp Tecumseh in Pittstown, NJ for a week-long session. This could not be done without the help of generous friends and supporters.

There's still time to sponsor a child to camp - please click here to make an online credit card donation.

THE RIDE FOR THE RED SHIELD MOTORCYCLE RUN on June 21st throughout Hunterdon County was a resounding success and plans are already in the works for the 3rd annual ride next year.

Highlights of the day included a route through beautiful Hunterdon County, trophies for various categories, pig roast/bbq, music and camaraderie.

HOW SAFE IS YOUR HOME? Are you prepared for a local emergency or disaster? To address safety and preparedness, The Salvation Army has two programs that are geared to the older adult or homebound disabled person, that increased their ability to remain in home and feel secure during a crisis.

THE FIRST is in Middlesex County, The Salvation Army manages the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP). Through RSVP, hundreds of older adults are placed in programs where they can volunteer their time and talents in various ways. read more here

THE SECOND has to do with Preparing Together. Have you ever thought about what you would do if New Jersey experienced the same floods that the Midwest recently got? Preparing Together is a collaborative endeavor with the US Department of Homeland Security where volunteers are trained, then partnered with older adults and homebound disabled to develop a personalized preparedness plan. read more here

For further information on either of these programs, please contact Ms. Brenda Beavers, MSW, ACSW at 908-851-8211.
