Program Fair to Showcase Salvation Army Programs

Need comes in many forms. In order to meet that need, The Salvation Army offers numerous programs to help our less fortunate neighbors deal with any number of hardships. Many of them will be highlighted at The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia's Christmas in July Program Fair on July 31. Members of the Philadelphia community are encouraged to attend this free public event to learn more about Salvation Army programming, how to support and how to get involved.

Taking Them Out to the Ballgame

Next week, 500 children from neighborhoods across Philadelphia will experience what some have only known from a television screen: attending a major league baseball game. On July 24, children from The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia's various corps community centers throughout the city will board buses destined for Citizens Bank Park, where they'll be greeted by dozens of Salvation Army volunteers with posters, foam fingers and other prizes for their special "Day with the Phillies" game day. The group will be donned in Salvation Army t-shirts.

Salvation Army Day Care Program Receives Special Certification

The Salvation Army Philadelphia Citadel Corps Community Center Day Care has reason to be proud: it's just been recognized with the Pennsylvania Keystone STARS "STAR 2" certification, reserved for child care organizations that have demonstrated efforts towards continuing education for staff members, providing a higher standard of educational opportunities for children, and meeting city criteria for educational topics.

Nothing has the Ability to Change the Life of a Child Quite Like Summer Camp

Salvation Army Corps Community Center Seeks to Provide Prison Inmates with Hope

The Salvation Army Philadelphia Tabernacle Corps Community Center hosts weekly services for inmates at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia. The goal is to actively work with young people in prisons to help them change the direction of their lives. They seek to offer words of comfort and hope to help prisoners make the necessary changes for the sake of their family's future.

The Salvation Army Kroc Center's Jazz Band Hosts Premiere Concert

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center officially introduced its talented Community Jazz Band during its recent concert premiere. In addition to the sounds of the jazz band, attendees were treated to a special guest performance by critically acclaimed trumpet soloist Chris Jaudes.

Family Bonds Together to Make a Difference

The Hudgins family was recently honored at The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia's Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for their years of dedicated service to the organization. The women span three generations. Theybegan volunteering at The Salvation Army's Thanksgiving food distribution three years ago and have been loyal ever since.

Through their senior citizen programs, The Salvation Army Roxborough Corps Community Center helps seniors stay healthy and active while building valuable friendships. The center offers a wide array of diverse activities for approximately 60 active members, including exercise classes, game nights, musical performances, arts and crafts, and field trips.
