Honoring the Outstanding Leadership of Eliza Shirley

Eliza Shirley left London to come to America with her parents, personally determined to carry on The Salvation Army's work in Philadelphia. She walked the streets in search of an affordable meeting place, and dedicated her life's work to continuing the mission of doing the most good for those in the most need. Soon after they arrived in America and opened their first meeting space, they were expanding to serve West Philadelphia, and the rest is history.



Judy Lynch, Senior Vice President, Employee Services of GlaxoSmithKline; Scott C. Borowsky, Founder and Executive Editor of Kane Communications, Inc.; and Stephen M. Spaeder, Senior Vice President, Acquisitions and Development of Equus have recently joined The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphiá¡’s advisory board.

The Salvation Army is mobilizing emergency response personnel and supplies after a devastating 7.8-magnitude Earthquake in Nepal that flattened homes and buildings, causing widespread damage across the region and killing more than 2,000 people.
