"The Salvation Army's ability to support more Philadelphians each year in this economic climate is due in no small measure to the passion and outstanding leadership of our volunteers," said Lt. Colonel Donald W. Lance, divisional commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division.

Austen and Liuzzi were honored for their outstanding philanthropy in the Greater Philadelphia region. Austen received The Salvation Army Eliza Shirley Women in Leadership Award, while Liuzzi was presented with The Salvation Army Doing the Most Good Community Leadership Award.

"All statistics point to the conclusion that our wonderful city continues to struggle," said Major Robert W. Dixon, Director of Operations for The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia. "Things might get worse before they can get better—but no matter how bad it gets, The Salvation Army is and always will be here to help.
