 THE SALVATION ARMY
of GREATER PHILADELPHIA ANNUAL LUNCHEON
|
|
Hundreds of business and
community leaders recently joined The Salvation Army in honoring Tierney
President and CEO Mary Stengel Austen and Wells Fargo Regional President Vince
Liuzzi at The Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia Annual Luncheon, emceed
by CBS 3 and CW Philly Anchor Natasha Brown
"The Salvation Army's ability to support more Philadelphians each year in
this economic climate is due in no small measure to the passion and outstanding
leadership of our volunteers," said Lt. Colonel Donald W. Lance, divisional
commander of The Salvation Army Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division.
Austen and Liuzzi were honored for their outstanding philanthropy in the
Greater Philadelphia region. Austen received The Salvation Army Eliza Shirley
Women in Leadership Award, while Liuzzi was presented with The Salvation Army
Doing the Most Good Community Leadership Award.
"All statistics point to the conclusion that our wonderful city continues to
struggle," said Major Robert W. Dixon, Director of Operations for The Salvation
Army of Greater Philadelphia. "Things might get worse before they can get
better—but no matter how bad it gets, The Salvation Army is and always
will be here to help. We are honored to recognize these two individuals, who
clearly demonstrate the values that are the very core of what The Salvation
Army stands for: Doing the Most Good."
While guests were challenged by
the achievements and remarks of the honorees, they were also inspired by
stories of hope, compassion, strength, and
faith –
including a special video hosted by CBS 3 and CW Philly Anchor Ukee Washington,
and a heart-warming presentation by The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation
Center of Philadelphia's Messengers of Hope choir.
Additionally, Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter provided remarks, St.
Joseph's Preparatory School President Rev. George W. Bur, S.J. pronounced the
invocation, Salvation Army Board Chair Raymond H. Welsh presented The Salvation
Army annual report, and Major Hester E. Dixon bestowed the benediction.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, more than $130,000 was
raised to provide critically-needed programs and services for people in need
across the Greater Philadelphia area.
