Circle of Security

An attachment-based intervention initially developed by Dr. Robert Marvin, a researcher from the University of Virginia, and Bert Powell, Glen Cooper, and Kent Hoffman, three clinicians from Spokane, Washington, that uses a user-friendly language and graphics to teach professionals and parents the crucial principles of attachment theory. This twelve week intervention program works with parents to assist them in changing distorted and problematic attachment patterns with their children.  It has received endorsement by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Child Abuse and Neglect as being an effective program, and has years of valid and reliable research demonstrating the efficacy of their model for moving parent-child attachment patterns from insecure and disorganized to more securely-attached patterns.  Family Care is using some of their graphics and has incorporated and adopted some of their user-friendly language into their train-the-trainer parenting model.
