THE SUMMER MEAL PROGRAM IS ON!!!
Hundreds of local students qualify for free or reduced meals during the school year. When summer vacation starts, however, families often struggle to afford three meals a day. That is why the Piqua Salvation Army is once again offering free summer meals to Piqua children between 1-18 years of age.
"In the summer, we need to make sure that there is some way for these students to get the nutrition that they need so that they come back to school healthy and ready to learn in the fall," said Major Major robert Klenk of the Piqua Salvation Army. Last year, over 7,800 meals were provided through the Summer Meal Program. " Meals are available at eight sites throughout the city, including apartment complexes, churches, and other community sites.
The Salvation Army mobile canteen delivers free lunches to children at Washington Commons, Piqua Village, Colonial Terrace, Central Baptist Church, Paris Court and Bent Tree Apartments at various times between 11:00 A.M. and 1:15 P.M. Additionally, children may receive a free meal from 12:00 to 12:15 at The Salvation Army located at 129 S. Wayne Street. For exact times at these specific locations, call The Salvation Army at 773-7563.
There is no registration and no charge for children's meals.
