To the Editor:

We would like to take this

opportunity to thank the

neighbors surrounding

Harney Street for opening

their doors, their hearts and

their kitchen cupboards to our

family on Saturday evening,

Dec. 7.

It was 48 years ago this

Christmas that our family

received a food basket and

gifts from the Salvation Army.

Our dad was stricken with a

life-threatening illness and

our mom was pregnant. The

Salvation Army brought gifts

for two little girls and a basket

with food supplies.

We decided for our family

Christmas gathering to go on

a canned good "scavenger

hunt" to donate for the

Salvation Army food baskets

this year. There were three

teams of three generations

from 2-years-old to 50-yearsold

scouring the neighborhood.

All of these wonderful

people who donated helped us

collect 145 canned and boxed

items! We were only out a

short time, and we were able

to give that much to the people

who had helped our family

so many years ago.

Even though our parents

have passed away, the memory

of that Christmas will not

be forgotten.

Once again, thank you for

your donations and kindness.
