OPENS DIAPER BANK FOR FAMILIES WITH NEWBORNS AND TODDLERS

Stamford – The Salvation Army’s Stamford Corps held a
ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new “Dry
Bottoms Diaper Bank” on January 24, 2012 at its Corps Community Center,
located at 198 Selleck Street. Mayor Michael Pavia joined The Salvation
Army’s Stamford Corps Officers Lieutenants Lila and Walter Droz in the
“official’ ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Mayor said that he was
delighted to be able to help get this worthwhile and necessary program off to a
great start and expected strong support from the Stamford community in the
months ahead to make it a huge year-round success. Lieutenant Lila Droz opened
the ceremony, delivering the welcoming remarks to the invited and excited
guests, advisory board members, and donors in attendance. She explained,
“the ‘Dry Bottoms Diaper Bank’ was created to help meet the
needs of low-income families in the City to keep babies’ bottoms dry. The
Salvation Army is looking to offset the cost of diapers by providing help for
children living in poverty, which affects the overall quality of life for many

C.E.S. "KING OF THE CANS" ONCE

HARTFORD - Consulting Engineering Services (C.E.S.) of Middletown,
Connecticut, won The Salvation Army’s 23rd Annual Architects and
Engineers Can Challenge. This year’s contest is "history" and C.E.S. has
been declared "King of the Cans" once again! C.E.S. founder, President, and
CEO, George Keithan Jr. explained, "the effort that our employees put into
winning the competition to collect food for the hungry is unreal. Teams compete
against each other for the 'special trophy' and the first place team gets to
keep it for the year. Food is hidden all around the building because no one
wants the other teams to know how much food they have gathered until judgment
day. The contest is a lot of fun for everyone and, even better, the food goes

WTIC 1080 HOLIDAY STORE SETS NEW
RECORD!

HARTFORD - The WTIC 1080 Holiday Store ended its December 24th Christmas Eve
broadcast with Ray Dunaway, WTIC-AM Morning Host, and Major Brian W. Glasco,
Greater Hartford
Area Services Coordinator for The Salvation Army, announcing a new event
record.
Celebrating the 22nd year of the WTIC 1080 Holiday Store, the broadcast
closed with donations of $206,761.52 in cash, $56,840 in new toys and games,
and approximately $7,576 in nonperishable food items, compared to last
year’s previous high of $195,921.09, which had respective category
contributions at $39,259 and $6,770. In summary, that is $271,177.52
this year versus $241,950.09 in 2010! More about this record...

Derby - The Valley Council for Health & Human Services held its Annual
Meeting and Awards Presentation on Monday, December 6, 2011, featuring a
keynote presentation by Representative Rosa L. DeLauro. The breakfast meeting,
which was generously sponsored by Naugatuck Savings Bank, was held at Grassy
Hill Lodge in Derby, Connecticut.
The Salvation Army’s Greater Valley Corps was presented with the
Agency/Program of the Year Award, which is presented to a nonprofit agency or a
program whose staff and volunteers exemplify excellence in the community and
whose services have made a significant and lasting contribution to the health
and well being of the residents of the lower Naugatuck Valley. Honoring a history of service...
ESPN DELIVERS!

BRISTOL - For several years, ESPN has assisted The Salvation Army's Bristol Corps in providing a better holiday for needy families. This year, over 200 families were the recipients of the generosity of caring individuals at ESPN.
December 19th, which has become know to ESPN employees and the staff at The Salvation Army as “Distribution Day” is a day of giving. Local families have been adopted and shopped for, and now they receive the gifts that ESPN employees bring to the Bristol Corps for distribution.

MCC STUDENTS PRESENT PUBLIC RELATIONS CAMPAIGN

stores.
MANCHESTER - Students from Manchester Community College (MCC) delivered a
presentation to The Salvation Army officials about getting the message out that
“The Salvation Army is more than kettles and thift stores.” The
students, members of Professor Emma Asante’s “Introduction to
Public Relations” course, were divided into groups and assigned to do
research, conduct a SWOT analysis, write a press release, and set up and
organize a focus groups for input. The students strategized, organized, and
delivered their presentations. Four unique and creative plans were

HARTFORD – New Balance - South Windsor/Avon and owner Mike Disibio have once again donated 50 pairs of sneakers to the Salvation Army's Greater Hartford Area Services for kids for the Christmas holiday.
In a radio promotion with The Rock 106.9 WCCC, New Balance donates 50 pairs of sneakers each year to The Salvation Army. This is the third year that the kids in Hartford have been the recipients of quality pairs of sneakers at a critical time of the year. While their parents are worried about food, heat, and housing, not to mention toys, New Balance has come through again with sneakers for kids to help these families at this critical time of year. AETNA HUMAN RESOURCE LEADERS TEAM BUILDING PROJECT BENEFITS THE SALVATION ARMY

Ready, set, paint!
HARTFORD – The Right Place, The Salvation Army’s Early Child
Care Center on Sigourney Street, will become the new home of the “jungle
mural” from Aetna employees through their Art of Giving Program. The
colorful painting is made up of eight - 2’ x 2’ squares and depicts
wild animals in a natural jungle habitat. The theme is something that the three to
five year olds study in many of their readings and activities lessons. Aetna
volunteers have dedicated their time and talent to create a masterpiece and
improve upon their own team building skills. The "unveiling" ceremony took
place on Tuesday, December 6th at 10:00 am at The Right Place - 123 Sigourney

It's Salvation Army's Red Kettle season again.

HARTFORD - This year in Connecticut, The Salvation Army will kick off the Red Kettle Campaign on Veteran's Day - Friday, November 11, 2011 with an "opening bell" ceremony at the Connecticut Convention Center with Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy. Major David Champlin, Divisional Commander for the Army in Southern New England said, "It's very significant to me that we are starting our Red Kettle effort here on Veteran's day. The ministry of The Salvation Army helping veterans has grown from serving coffee and doughnuts in World War I, to providing many programs of comfort and cheer today. We recognize the sacrifices the veterans have made for our country and we are always proud to be able to help these men and women whenever they are in need." Kettle kickoff continued...

KICKS OFF 3RD COATS FOR CONNECTICUT
ON NOVEMBER 9TH
Middletown, CT -- While the weather has been unusually mild this November,
the staff at all 11 Best Cleaners' locations has been busy collecting, cleaning
and distributing winter coats and clothing to those who will be in extreme need
once the temperature drops. The third annual COATS FOR CONNECTICUT drive
kicked off on November 9 and runs through the end of January. Best customers
and the general public are asked to drop off gently-used winter coats and
clothing for all ages at any location for free cleaning and delivery to
Salvation Army centers and The Connection's programs in the greater Hartford,
Middletown, Meriden, Bristol and New Britain areas. The last delivery is

HARTFORD - Avon/Canton State Representative Timothy LeGeyt (R)
came to visit The Salvation Army's - The Right Place - Early Learning Child
Care Center on Sigourney Street in October. Representative LeGeyt was given a
tour of The Right Place by Major Brian Glasco, Greater Hartford Area
Coordinator for The Salvation Army and Nancy Winslow, Director of Childcare
Programs. During the tour Tim spent time fielding questions from the children
in the program. Questions ranged from: "Where do you eat lunch?" . . . "Who is
higher - President Obama or you?" . . . to "how do you make laws?" These
inquiries seemed to be questions that Tim has handled before. He obviously
enjoys working with the children, helping them with their education and giving
