HARTFORD - The Salvation Army's Greater Hartford Women's Auxiliary Spring
Luncheon and Auction was held once again at the breathtaking Pond House in
Elizabeth Park in West Hartford on Thursday, May 10, 2012. With many
hard-working members of the Women's Auxiliary and their guests in attendance
and the talents of WVIT-TV's (NBC 30) Anchor Brad Drazen serving as the
auctioneer, the event was another huge and exhilarating accomplishment!
Guests arrived early to view the many wonderful offerings, place bids on
numerous silent auction items, peruse various jewelry and more for sale at very
affordable prices, and see in advance what the live-auction would include. The
program began with a heartfelt welcome from Captain Christine Glasco, The
Salvation Army's Liaision Officer for the Greater Hartford Women's Auxiliary,
followed by an always-inspiring grace by Major Eunice Champlin, Director of
Women's Ministries for The Salvation Army's Southern New England Division.
Then, lunch was served!
After a magnificent lunch, Sandra Bobowski, President of the Greater
Hartford Women's Auxiliary, presented over $6,000 raised last year in the form
of grants to various Greater Harford programs. Through this generosity, more
children will attend camp, Marshall House will get a new freezer, The Right
Place will get cameras for their classrooms, and much more. Then, everyone got
involved in some seriously competitive bidding. Brad, a strong supporter of the
work of the Women's Auxiliary, led the live-auction bidding and kept the
program moving at a quick and exciting pace. All funds raised will be awarded
to programs offered by The Salvation Army in Greater Hartford next year.
In reflecting on the event, Captain Glasco said, "The Women's Auxiliary
ladies are an outstanding group that loves the mission and work of The
Salvation Army. They work hard and raise funds every year to provide grants
that help our various ministries and programs in Greater Hartford. We are
deeply grateful to these women for their support of and their love for The
Salvation Army."
The Salvation Army's Greater Hartford Women's Auxiliary is a volunteer arm
of the work and ministry of The Salvation Army. Through the support of its
dedicated membership, practical assistance is given to the Army's programs
through fundraising, as well as through hands-on service. For additional
