WTIC 1080 HOLIDAY STORE SETS NEW RECORD!

Donors and volunteers eagerly await the news as WTIC Holiday Store radio personalities Ray Dunaway and Jim Vicevich get ready to announce this year's total before signing off.

2010
WTIC Holiday Store sets a new record!HARTFORD - The WTIC NewsTalk 1080 - Salvation Army Holiday Store set a new record and raised $195,521.09 in cash donations this holiday season. An estimated $39,259.00 in new toys and $4,385.00 non perishable food was also collected, which equals a total value of $239,165.09 raised at the 21st WTIC Holiday store. If you ever needed a new definition of "crazy" you would have had to be present at Avon Old Farms Hotel on Christmas Eve Day for the final broadcast of this year's program. The day started over $55,000 behind last year's cash contributions. It was a little slow at 5:30 AM when Ray Dunaway went on the air, but after 6:00 it started to pick up. And then it never stopped! Over $50,000 was received during the morning from the many generous supporters around Greater Hartford. When the program was ending at noon, Dunaway and Jim Vicevich reported that we were about $3,000 behind last year and we signed off for the pre-recorded Christmas programming. But more was still to come! With on line donations, telephone pledges and late arriving US mail the total is still growing.

Salvation Army Greater Hartford Area Coordinator, Major Doug Hart said, "to even be in the same ball-park as last year is truly amazing, but these results are phenomenal. We are so happy and so blessed that people can be this generous during these difficult economic times. Many families rely on us for help to get them through the holidays and we were very concerned about the sharp increase in the number of individuals that were asking for help this year. The Holiday Store success will go a long way in helping these individuals and families all year. I want to thank WTIC 1080 and their listeners for their generosity and compassion."

The Salvation Army wishes to thank WTIC 1080 NewTalk Radio, our sponsors: United Technologies Corporation, Connecticut Lighting Centers, Home Builders Association of Hartford County, and Lux Bond & Green. We also thank Avon Old Farms Hotel and Hilton Garden Inn & Homewood Suites in Glastonbury for their hospitality. And we especially wish to thank all our generous donors who make this campaign a success.
