THANK YOU!
WTIC 1080 HOLIDAY STORE SETS NEW
RECORD!
(Pastor Will Marotti,
Governor John Rowland, and Major Brian W. Glasco inviting donors to come
visit the broadcast on December 19th from Lux Bond & Green in West
Hartford!)
HARTFORD - The WTIC 1080 Holiday Store ended its December 24th Christmas Eve
broadcast with Ray Dunaway, WTIC-AM Morning Host, and Major Brian W. Glasco,
Greater Hartford
Area Services Coordinator for The Salvation Army, announcing a new event
record.
Celebrating the 22nd year of the WTIC 1080 Holiday Store, the broadcast
closed with donations of $206,761.52 in cash, $56,840 in new toys and games,
and approximately $7,576 in nonperishable food items, compared to last
year’s previous high of $195,921.09, which had respective category
contributions at $39,259 and $6,770. In summary, that is $271,177.52
this year versus $241,950.09 in 2010!
“While it is always a pleasure to be able to announce a new record,
the bottom line amount can never capture the fun and excitement that the
broadcasts generate,” said Jim Gordon, Director of Public Relations and
Marketing for The Salvation Army's Southern New England Division.
“Hopefully some of the enthusiasm comes across over the
airwaves.”
Major Brian W. Glasco said, “It’s important for our supporters
to know how their donations are spent. All of the money goes to our programs in
Greater Hartford. Some of it goes toward our family shelter on South Marshall
Street, while some helps pay client’s utility bills or to buy groceries
for people in need. We are much more than just a Christmas charity and we use
these donations over a twelve-month period. When our clients come to us in
need, thanks to WTIC, our sponsors, and our generous donors, we are able to
help them during their time of crisis.”
Whether it is a frequent visitor in Avon, like Henry Bahre, reading his
“hit list,” Jean-Jean “the farm queen” bringing
everyone up-to-date on what is new in the Valley, or Don Tuller “the pie
guy from Tulmeadow Farm” telling us his latest flavor. Or in Glastonbury,
Bill Dufford telling us what kind of year it has been for “growers in the
Connecticut Valley,” Congressman John Larson telling listeners what is
not happening in D.C., or maybe on the last broadcast day when Bill Ferrigno
and the Homebuilders Association of Hartford County show up with a lot of noise
AND a lot of money. No matter who you are, even if you are a first time donor
or a long time donor, everyone is welcome and appreciated!

WTIC HOLIDAY STORE
CELEBRATING
22 YEARS!
We celebrate our 22nd Anniversary this WTIC Holiday Store Season! The store
began in 1990. It was the idea of WTIC program director, Jack Mitchell, that
the station sponsor a holiday promotion which would enlist the community in a
unified effort, while at the same time benefit those in need.
Since
its start, the holiday store has grown every year, providing more and more
goods for The Salvation Army to serve our neighbors. Corporate volunteers,
families, school children, and donors look forward to the WTIC Holiday store
with great anticipation every December.
Last year, the store
exceeded goals and expectations, with over $195,921.09 in cash, an estimated
$39,259 in toys, and $6,770 in non-perishable food items - gathered to
support the programs of The Salvation Army in Greater Hartford. WTIC and its
listeners donated almost a quarter of a million dollars to help people in need
in Greater Hartford! Click here to donate to the 2011 WTIC Holiday Store.
