CAMPAIGN
TO THE SALVATION ARMY
More than kettles and thrift stores.
MANCHESTER - Students from Manchester Community College (MCC)
delivered a presentation to The Salvation Army officials about getting the
message out that “The Salvation Army is more than kettles and thift
stores.” The students, members of Professor Emma Asante’s
“Introduction to Public Relations” course, were divided into groups
and assigned to do research, conduct a SWOT analysis, write a press release,
and set up and organize a focus groups for input. The students strategized,
organized, and delivered their presentations. Four unique and creative plans
were presented.
“In times of need, you can always depend on
The
Salvation Army. They are filled with a wonderful staff and volunteers who give
their time to help others achieve their best,” said MCC student Marsha
Mack. She was part of a presentation that was called “Generation
Love.”
The Salvation Army's Greater Hartford Area Services
Coordinator Major Brian W. Glasco said, “I was very impressed with the
quality and caliber of the presentations. The students gave me many great ideas
to ponder. I am very thankful to them, MCC. and Professor Asante for giving us
this wonderful opportunity.”
Lisa Goepfert, Director of
Development for The Salvation Army's Southern New England Division said,
“What a tremendous opportunity this was for everyone! We value young
people. Their input and ideas are exactly what we need in order to connect with
a younger audience. The students did a great job and gave us some valuable
feedback as to how their generation views us.”
