DANBURY - The Salvation Army's Danbury Corps held its annual Community
Breakfast Fundraiser on Friday, April 27th at Anthony’s Lake Club. The
room was packed with many familiar faces, and some new ones also. Advisory
Board Chairman and Danbury Fire Chief Geoff Herald welcomed the excited crowd
to the event and then introduced Mayor Mark Boughton. The Mayor, a strong
supporter of The Salvation Army, thanked everyone for coming out and thanked
The Army for all it does to help people in need in Danbury. Next came Danbury
Corps Officer Captain Todd Hughes. He welcomed everyone, then proceeded by
delivering the Invocation. After that was the terrific breakfast!
When everyone was finished eating and enjoying their coffee, the awards
ceremony began. Many groups and individuals were recognized for outstanding
efforts to help The Salvation Army.
The Lions Club of Danbury won the “Top Kettle” award for beating
the Danbury Rotary Club for this high honor. Shay Miller, President of the
Women’s Auxiliary, thanked fellow Auxiliary members for all of their
support throughout the year, making a special recognition and presentation to
Agi Pace for her efforts with the Angel Tree program. Agi received a plaque and
a bouquet of flowers from the group for a job extremely well done!
Anthony’s Lake House did another outstanding job taking care of the
attendees and always made sure that there was plenty of food for everyone. Any
extra food goes back to the Danbury Corps' Foster Street location and is
distributed to hungry individuals waiting at the food pantry. Lieutenant Noemi
Torres, Danbury Temple Corps Officer, said the closing prayer and supporters
were soon on their way to work at 9:15, which made Community Breakfast
Committee Chairperson Ken Saloom very pleased.
