BEST CLEANERS
KICKS OFF 3RD COATS FOR CONNECTICUT ON NOVEMBER 9TH
Middletown, CT -- While the weather has been unusually mild this November,
the staff at all 11 Best Cleaners' locations has been busy collecting, cleaning
and distributing winter coats and clothing to those who will be in extreme need
once the temperature drops. The third annual COATS FOR CONNECTICUT drive
kicked off on November 9 and runs through the end of January. Best customers
and the general public are asked to drop off gently-used winter coats and
clothing for all ages at any location for free cleaning and delivery to
Salvation Army centers and The Connection's programs in the greater Hartford,
Middletown, Meriden, Bristol and New Britain areas. The last delivery is
scheduled for mid-February.
"Starting the COATS FOR
CONNECTICUT was an easy decision for us. It utilizes the services we provide
best to help others in our communities who are less fortunate. The first two
years of the campaign were hugely successful thanks to the coat donations made
by our customers as well as non-customers," stated Shawn McCann, president of
the environmentally-friendly drycleaning chain, "It's an easy and very
gratifying way to make a big difference in someone's life."
With
an efficient collection and delivery framework established in 2009, McCann and
the Best team reached out again to local centers and shelters which are capable
of getting the coats and clothing directly to the Connecticut needy as quickly
as possible. The Salvation Army of Connecticut and The Connection, Inc., a
non-profit organization with several programs in central Connecticut,
enthusiastically reconfirmed their participation for this year.
According to Brenda Downing, Director of Social Services for the
Salvation Army in Connecticut, "when individuals enter our offices for
assistance, they are able to sort through coats until they find a great match
and a good fit. Often the coats are almost like new. Our clients may come in
freezing, but they leave a little warmer and very thankful. Many of
Connecticut's less fortunate are more comfortable today thanks to the
generosity of Best Cleaners and their customers. We thank you!"
The real appeal of the campaign is the relative ease for all involved.
People can donate freely without having to incur the expense or time to have
items cleaned. Best uses its everyday service process to clean and deliver the
clothing, greatly reducing the shelters' staff time for taking in and
distributing the donations. Ultimately, more coats should get to more people,
more quickly, and help keep Connecticut warmer this winter. For more
