General Statement of Supervision/Representation:
The Disaster Case Manager serves as a primary point of contact, assisting the Client in coordinating necessary services and resources to address the client’s complex disaster recovery needs in order to re-establish normalcy. The Disaster Case Manager relies on the Client to play an active or lead role in his or her own recovery. The Disaster Case Manager reports to the DCM/Long Term Recovery Supervisor.
Scope:
On behalf of The Salvation Army, serve as a case manager working with individuals and families who are recovering from Hurricane Sandy for the Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London Counties.
Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge:
- A Bachelor’s degree preferred; however, three years of experience working in Social Services with knowledge of local resources will qualify;
- Experience working in disaster recovery is preferred and computer proficiency is required. Bi-Lingual in Spanish a plus as well as demonstrated sensitivity to issues related to poverty and the barriers faced by people with low incomes;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with excellent interpersonal skills including empathetic listening;
- Flexible work schedule may include some nights and/or weekend work;
- Must have a valid motor vehicle driver’s license;
