Volunteering Knows No Age

NORWALK - The Salvation Army was recently surprised by the rich history of volunteerism by one long-time volunteer. When Margaret Horn (Dyer) recently came to volunteer, she brought with her a photo from her bell ringing with Major John Hudson in 1955! Here she is, pictured today, with current Norwalk Officer Captain Diego Bedoya. For volunteers like Margaret, we could not be more thankful!

NORWALK -- For many, basic food items such as peanut butter and jelly and pasta are staples in the kitchen cupboard. But not everyone is so fortunate.

In an effort to address the issue of hunger, the Salvation Army and Feed the Children partnered together on Monday to distribute boxes of food to 400 families residing in the Norwalk area.

The event, which took place at Veterans Memorial Park, was founded in 2009 and has since helped more than 460,000 families across the country. How the distribution happened...

(Article from It's Relevant - Norwalk Edition.)

NORWALK - Feed the Children and the Salvation Army will join forces Monday, June 3 to feed 400 families at Veteran's Park.

"This fills a huge local need," said Charlotte Dufrane, Salvation Army Director of Social Services for the Greater Norwalk area. "It might appear that we are in a community that is not in need but that is not the truth. We have unreal needs -- especially food."

The Salvation Army will distribute food to families from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Dufrane said applications for the food filled up quickly, and by Thursday afternoon the Salvation Army's goal of 400 families had already been met. More details and how you can help...
