Emergency Assistance

The Salvation Army provides eligible families and individuals with assistance through our varied programs:

Family Emergency Shelter
provides temporary sheltering and counseling for families helping them to eventually transition into permanent housing.

Beyond Shelter
provides services to landlords and to homeless families who are leaving emergency shelters in Waterbury. The goal of the program is to locate safe, affordable housing, to build relationships between landlords and tenants and to help the families manage personal affairs so as to achieve housing stability.

Central P.A.R.K.
(Parent Attended Recreation for Kids) is an indoor playground equipped with riding toys, a jungle gym, sand box, reading area, and a computer learning center for children 5 years and under and their parents.

Comprehensive Emergency Services
provides assistance to families and individuals including food, clothing, limited furniture and utility needs, counseling and referrals to other agencies.

Seasonal Assistance
provides families with Back to School, Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance.

CT Nonprofits Week I at State Capitol a Success!

HARTFORD - The Connecticut Association of Nonprofits (CT Nonprofits), the largest membership organization in the state dedicated exclusively to working with not-for-profit agencies, held its CT Nonprofits Week I at the L.O.B. from February 18 through 21. Naugatuck Legislators Bring in More Than $10,000

NAUGATUCK – In one hour, State Reps. Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) and David K. Labriola (R-131) raised $5,332.61 Wednesday for local families in need through their volunteering efforts as Salvation Army bell ringers.

The local lawmakers stood outside the Naugatuck Wal-Mart, greeting holiday shoppers as they came and went, wishing them a happy holiday. The Bells Are Still Ringing!

Waterbury’s Breakfast Bigger and Better than Ever!

WATERBURY - The guests had an easier commute this year for the "5th Annual - Keep the Bells Ringing Kettle Kick-Off Breakfast." As they entered La Bella Vista for a delicious buffet breakfast and exciting program, they were greeted with joyous music by The Salvation Army’s Brass Ensemble. Celebrating Dedicated Service

WATERBURY - Majors John and Annette Lock, along with Chair Deborah Sullivan, had the opportunity to show appreciation to retiring Advisory Board member, Richard Frey, after many years of dedicated service. Board members of The Salvation Army, including Mr. Frey, give of their time, expertise and resources to touch countless lives every year, helping to further the mission of The Salvation Army. Waterbury Advisory Board Keeps Growing!

WATERBURY – Majors John and Annette Lock, Waterbury Corps Officers, are pleased to announce the addition of two new Greater Waterbury Advisory Board members. Mr. Francis Berthiaume, Vice President - Mortgage Lending and Consumer Loan Officer at Thomaston Savings Bank, and Attorney Michael K. Conway, who is in private practice and also the Chair of the Waterbury Bar Association. Both men were inducted in as new members at the March 12 meeting.

Major John Lock remarked, "We are honored and blessed to have such wonderful individuals join our Advisory Board. As Officers, we rely heavily on the expertise of our board members to know and understand the needs of the community. It is the responsibility of the board to help increase the visibility of the Army in the Waterbury area. We are blessed to be surrounded with such wonderful leaders."
