Doing the Most Good is more than just a slogan. Since 1883, The Salvation Army has served those in need in our community. Through over 40 different programs, we provide life saving services to 40,000 individuals each year. The scope of our services is extraordinary for a community of this size, serving everyone from infants to seniors. Our services include shelters for the homeless, food for the hungry, education and support for young mothers, affordable quality day care, programs for at-risk youth and social opportunities for seniors.
With the support of a large volunteer network, we are also able to respond locally to international crises. On May 1, 2010, for example, 2,600 people came together to pack 867,585 meals for earthquake victims in Haiti.
While The Salvation Army is often recognized for the short-term emergency assistance it provides to victims of disaster, job loss, domestic violence or other events, we are equally committed to linking individuals with the long-term educational and social services they need to avoid future crises and become self sufficient. As always, our mission is to help all those in need, without discrimination.
None of what we do would be possible without the generous financial and volunteer contributions we receive from members of this community. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve our friends and neighbors in Onondaga County.
